Job description

G7 delivers high-performing, grid-connected projects and has transitioned from a developer to a fully integrated IPP.

With projects in excess of 2GW at various stages of maturity, G7 is growing its pipeline and has over MW of renewable energy projects under construction.

Role Description This is a full-time hybrid role as a Data Scientist at G7 Renewable Energies based in City of Cape Town.

The Data Scientist will be responsible for data science, statistics, data analytics, data visualization, and data analysis tasks on a day-to-day basis.

The role is within the Research & Development Department which focus on a broad range of tasks within the business.

R&D plays a critical role in building advanced models for plant performance, energy system modeling, market research, web development and database design and management.

The applicant must have more than 2-years' experience in Data Science or related fields.

This role is suited for someone who does not want the typical Data Science industry and wants to take control of their own career.

Data Scientist Responsibilities Perform ad-hoc data mining and gather large sets of structured and unstructured data from several sources.

Use various statistical methods, data visualization techniques to design and evaluate advanced statistical models from vast volumes of data.

Build AI models using various algorithms and in-built libraries.

Automate tedious tasks and generate insights using machine learning models.

Pulling, merging and analyzing data Looking for patterns or trends Trying to simplify data problems and developing predictive models (using deep learning technology) Building data visualizations Writing up results and pulling together proofs of concepts Data Collection, Cleaning, and Manipulation : Collect, clean, and manipulate large datasets to extract and share insights with the business.

Perform ad-hoc data mining to identify trends and patterns.

Generate predictive models using the available data.

Build and maintain specific datasets, such as G7's scouting dataset.

Procure and process relevant data to update the dataset.

Develop new filter parameters to enhance the dataset's usefulness.

Advanced Statistical and Machine Learning Techniques : Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to build models.

Deploy models for accurate predictions and recommendations.

Evaluate and improve models based on performance feedback.

Handle backend development, server deployment, and front-end usability of the model framework.

Add new applications and features to enhance the functionality of the models.

Reporting : Share key learnings and themes with the relevant Departments / Managers.

Communicate project activities, plans, and results to stakeholders.

Compile / prepare the necessary reports.

Present project findings to Senior Management Team / other relevant parties.

Qualifications : BSc.

or MSc.

in a relevant field (Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics) Advantageous : Post Graduate qualification in data science or related fields Experience : 2+ Years' Experience in a related role with Strong forecasting experience Calculus, linear algebra, statistics, and probability Machine learning algorithms and deployment of such models into production Data manipulation, cleaning, and wrangling techniques Database technologies and data warehousing concepts Required Skills : Data Science, Statistics, and Data Analytics skills Data Visualization and Data Analysis skills Database design and management Experience in renewable energy sector is a plus Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills Ability to work INDEPENDANTLY and as part of a team Deep learning is a must The Energy sector is very different to traditional businesses.

This requires someone with advanced critical thinking who enjoys complex problems.

A lot of projects are designed to be run by an individual who is supported by the team.
