Job summary

FirstRand Short Term Insurance is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead a team that builds advanced models and analytics to influence business strategy. You will develop propensity and segmentation models, improve operations, and guide data engineering for BI initiatives. A strong mathematical and statistical background is essential.

The role demands leadership, deep analytics experience, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive improvements across channels and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mathematical Sciences, Statistics, Actuarial Science or Engineering.
• Honours degree preferred.
• 5–8 years relevant experience, 2–3 years in management.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize operational processes.
• Develop and manage new propensity models.
• Develop customer hyper-segmentation target models.
• Reduce attrition on back-book via collections and retentions interventions.
• Collaborate with operations to improve TAT and execution.
• Support analytical reporting for call centre.
• Guide data engineering on build requirements for BDP/PI implementation.
