Mind Detect in Cape Town is seeking a Data Engineer to design and optimize data architectures for payments data and other business data infrastructure. The role focuses on scalability, stability, and efficiency within a hybrid work setup.

The successful candidate will collaborate across business units, translate complex data systems into insights, and contribute to a fast-paced, high-performance culture with open global collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• 4+ years of data engineering experience.
• Experience with data modelling, warehousing and ETL pipelines; realtime and batch processing.
• Strong hands-on experience with data pipelines and relational databases (Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server, MySQL).
• Strong business mindset and ability to translate stakeholder requirements into data solutions.
• Knowledge of Machine Learning is a plus.

Our cutting-edge payments infrastructure platform client is searching for a Data Engineer to join their world-class data engineering team in Cape Town (hybrid).

The Data Engineer will focus on architecting and enhancing complex payment data and other business data infrastructure, prioritising scalability, stability, and efficiency. This role requires a deep understanding of data system architecture to innovate and improve existing frameworks, ensuring they meet evolving business demands. The successful candidate will liaise with various business units, translating complex data systems into actionable insights and strategic solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimise data architecture and pipeline systems to support business objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement the most suitable data engineering solutions.
• Develop and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines that can handle high volumes of data from various sources.
• Learn and understand a broad range of data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to use.
• Coordinate with different departments to ensure the seamless integration of data systems into the company's broader technology infrastructure.
• Lead the planning and implementation of data management strategies to ensure data accuracy, availability, durability and security.
• Establish and enforce guidelines for data handling and processing to maintain data integrity and compliance with data privacy regulations.
• Continuously monitor, test, and improve the performance of data systems and databases.
• Implement efficient data storage practices and optimise data retrieval processes.
• Manage and own the entire data processing system (internally, as well as interfacing with other teams or third party services), provide advice on any necessary infrastructure changes
• Participate in building machine learning models, deliver analyses and insights to support business decision making

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience from a top-tier university
• 4+ years of data engineering experience
• Experience with data modelling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines, utilising realtime and batch processing techniques
• Strong first‑hand experience with data pipelines and relational databases such as Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server or MySQL
• Strong business mindset and ability to grasp business requirements from stakeholders
• Knowledge of Machine Learning is a plus
