Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Center Genset Engineer to join our team on a 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diesel generator sets (DG) in a data center environment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and maintain all diesel generator units, scheduling routine maintenance and repairing faults.

Install and inspect DG units to ensure operational efficiency.

Maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems, including PLCs.

Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and prepare reports on any violations.

Keep comprehensive documentation of project activities and maintain accurate records.

Manage inventory of parts and service truck stock.

Perform preventive maintenance and timely repairs on DG systems.

Interpret blueprints and ensure compliance with mechanical and electrical codes.

Liaise with suppliers to order parts and ensure timely repairs.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.

Candidate Requirements

Minimum 6 years’ experience in diesel generator installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Prior experience in data centers or large industrial facilities preferred.

Experience with Mitsubishi and Perkins generators is an advantage.

Must hold a valid Wireman License and Trade Test .

Relevant qualifications such as Higher National Diploma, National Diploma, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering accredited by SAQA.

Professional Engineering Technician accreditation or equivalent experience recognized by the Engineering Council of South Africa.

Ability to work independently and ensure high-quality, efficient work.

Strong knowledge of safety and regulatory compliance in electrical and mechanical trades.
