Placements24 is seeking a proactive Cyber Security Engineer to join its IT department in Richards Bay. You will defend against cyber threats, implement security measures, and respond to incidents, working with firewalls, VPNs, EDR, and IPS to protect networks and data.

The role requires 3–5 years of hands-on cybersecurity experience, strong networking knowledge, and proficiency with scripting for automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT or related field.
• 3–5 years of hands-on cybersecurity engineering or operations experience.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols, TCP/IP, and common vulnerabilities.
• Experience with SIEM platforms, EDR, and threat intel tools.
• Scripting skills in Python or PowerShell are a plus.
• Certifications like Security+, CySA+, or CCNA Security are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Implement, configure, and manage security tools (firewalls, VPNs, EDR, IPS).
• Monitor network traffic and systems for breaches and anomalies.
• Participate in incident response: investigation, containment, eradication, recovery.
• Conduct regular vulnerability scans and assist remediation.
• Develop and maintain security documentation and configurations.
• Collaborate with infra and development teams to embed security in design.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement, configure, and manage security tools, including firewalls, VPNs, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS).
• Monitor network traffic and systems for security breaches and anomalous activity, taking immediate corrective action.
• Participate in incident response activities, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Conduct regular vulnerability scans and assist in the remediation of identified weaknesses.
• Develop and maintain security documentation, procedures, and configurations.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and development teams to ensure security is integrated into system design and operations.
