The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) invites South African graduates to apply for Graduate in Training (GIT) Programme 2025

About the GIT Programme 2025

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is offering exciting Graduate in Training (GIT) opportunities within the Aerospace Systems Impact Area, part of its Defence and Security Cluster. These GIT opportunities are ideal for South African graduates in Electronic Engineeringand Mechatronic Engineering who want to gain practical experience in a high-tech research and innovation environment.

These are full-time, temporary positions based at the CSIR’s Scientia Campus in Pretoria.

Available GIT Positions
1. Graduate in Training: Electronic Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in electrical upgrades, installations, and fault diagnostics
  • Participate in wind tunnel plant energy management
  • Program and support PLC systems (Siemens & Allen Bradley)
  • Design PFC (power factor correction) systems and PCBs
  • Support instrumentation, data acquisition, and project management
  • Maintain technical documentation and provide team support

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • CAD software proficiency (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and industrial automation
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Must be a South African citizen and eligible for security clearance
2. Graduate in Training: Mechatronic Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with electromechanical system upgrades and maintenance
  • Program PLCs and design PFC and PCB systems
  • Support automation and control system integration
  • Assist with technical support and collaborate on engineering projects

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronic Engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, PLCs, and VSD/VFD
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, and analytical thinking
  • Must be a South African citizen and eligible for security clearance
