Job description

Large manufacturing group are seeking an experienced Fleet Controller who will be responsible for managing and coordinating the daily operations of the company’s fleet of delivery vehicles. This role ensures timely, safe, and cost-effective distribution of manufactured materials to customers, while maintaining high standards of fleet maintenance, driver management, and route optimization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Fleet Coordination & Dispatch
2. Schedule and dispatch drivers for local and national deliveries
3. Monitor daily vehicle movements and delivery timelines
4. Assign routes and track progress using tracking software (e.g., Mix Telematics, Ctrack)
5. Driver Management
6. Supervise and support drivers, ensuring adherence to safety and company policies
7. Conduct driver debriefs and report on performance
8. Assist with recruitment and onboarding of drivers
9. Vehicle Maintenance & Compliance
10. Ensure all vehicles are serviced and maintained according to schedule
11. Conduct inspections and manage licensing, roadworthiness, and compliance with transport regulations
12. Coordinate repairs and liaise with workshops
13. Administration & Reporting
14. Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and breakdowns
15. Generate weekly/monthly fleet performance and cost reports
16. Manage vehicle insurance, fines, and incident reporting
17. Cost & Route Optimization
18. Identify opportunities to reduce transport costs through efficient routing and vehicle utilization
19. Work with logistics and planning teams to improve delivery times and reduce delays

REQUIREMENTS
1. Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
2. Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, or similar (advantageous)
3. Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a Fleet Controller or Logistics Coordinator role, preferably in manufacturing or packaging sectors
4. Strong knowledge of transport legislation and road safety compliance
5. Proficient in fleet management software and MS Office (Excel, Outlook)
6. Experience with vehicle tracking systems (Mix Telematics, Ctrack, etc.)
