Job Purpose:
To manage, coordinate, and optimise all courier operations from the assigned hub, ensuring efficient and cost-effective collection and delivery services. The Courier Operations Manager is responsible for managing courier teams, route planning, delivery performance, compliance, and daily operational execution in line with service level agreements (SLAs) and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Operations Management:
- Oversee end-to-end courier operations, including dispatch, collection, and delivery processes.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to delivery schedules, service levels, and productivity targets.
- Coordinate with the Hub Manager to align operational execution with strategic hub objectives.
Team Leadership & Staff Management:
- Lead, supervise, and motivate courier supervisors, drivers, and support staff.
- Ensure staffing levels are aligned with operational demand.
- Conduct regular team briefings, performance reviews, and training sessions.
Performance Monitoring:
- Track and analyse KPIs such as delivery times, success rates, on-road failures, and customer complaints.
- Implement corrective actions and improvement plans when performance dips below targets.
- Provide daily/weekly reports to the Hub Manager on courier performance metrics.
Route & Resource Optimisation:
- Oversee route planning to maximise efficiency, reduce costs, and meet delivery targets.
- Collaborate with fleet controllers and planners to ensure optimal vehicle utilisation.
- Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle usage, and overtime trends.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure courier operations comply with health & safety, legal, and company standards.
- Investigate delivery incidents, losses, or vehicle accidents and implement preventive measures.
- Oversee compliance with timekeeping, parcel handling, and customer interaction protocols.
Customer Service Focus:
- Manage escalation of delivery issues and customer complaints from the operations team.
- Work closely with customer service and call centre teams to ensure smooth resolution and feedback loops.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Matric (Grade 12) essential; post-matric qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Operations Management advantageous.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in courier or logistics operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong understanding of last-mile delivery, route planning, and fleet management.
- Experience working in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
