The Cost & Management Accountant will manage the product costing function in Somerset West.
The person will be accountable for supporting the finance department's objectives of sound financial internal controls, compliance with all internal policies and procedures, and adherence to relevant external legislation and accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for accurate manufacturing costing on site, including review of Bill of Materials, part operations, and inputs to the monthly costing run.
- Ensure correct reporting of stock levels — quantities, cost, and valuation.
- Prepare monthly financial reports per site, including product cost deviations, material usage, inventory balances, operating costs, and other key performance indicators.
- Supply monthly inputs to financial reporting and assist with month-end processes (journals, reconciliations, etc.).
- Provide training and support on ERP system functionality across all sites, ensuring data accuracy and investigating issues.
- Identify risks related to inventory and products with potential financial implications, including stock provisions and write-offs.
- Assist sites with cycle and full stock counts.
- Monitor production work order deviations, including closing and rescheduling.
- Review and maintain material master information, including account allocations.
- Provide guidance to departments such as Planning, Operations, and Logistics.
- Recommend procedural and operational controls to ensure financial integrity.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including tariff and activity rate calculations.
- Contribute to monthly prognosis, forecasts, and budgets regarding stock and material usage.
- Oversee site compliance with month-end and year-end procedures.
- Represent finance on procurement committees.
- Serve as the key finance contact for site-related financial queries.
- Handle ad hoc information requests from various stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting (NQF 6+) or equivalent.
- CIMA qualification is advantageous.
- At least 5 years of financial experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in Excel and ERP systems (preferably SAP S/4HANA).
- Knowledge of accounting standards and principles.
- Ability to apply skills across costing, accounting, and asset management disciplines.
- Ability to work independently under pressure, multitask, and adapt to change.
- Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills in technical discussions.
