Job description

Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Cost Engineer II to be placed in Gauteng, Bedfordview.

The successful candidate will report to the Project Services Executive. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position.

Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications are only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  1. Effective measurement and monitoring of work completed to ensure payment for certificates are contractually met.
  2. Compile accurate, timely, and relevant reports within deadlines to ensure effective project management.
  3. Compile certificates from measurements or measured work done during the month on a specific site / project, present at certification meetings, obtain agreement, invoice, and follow up accordingly.
  4. Prepare original budget estimates and cost-to-completion scenarios, compile month-end reports, project review packs, assessment projections, and monthly evaluation certificates.
  5. Engage effectively with stakeholders to ensure smooth workflows.
  6. Proactively identify risks and escalate/mitigate as necessary.
  7. Comply with legal regulations, contractual terms, and M&RC's policies, procedures, standards, and safety protocols.
  8. Practice effective self-management and align with M&RC values and leadership initiatives.

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • BSc Quantity Surveying / BTech Quantity Surveying.
  • BSc Honours Quantity Surveying (advantageous).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel essential).
  • Proficient in Construction Computer Software (preferred).
  • Proficient on an ERP system (JD Edwards preferred).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Analytical and attentive to detail.
  • Sound project management and commercial skills in terms of contract management.
  • Strong work ethic and judgment skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cope with pressure.
  • Good English written and verbal communication skills, with ability to negotiate, resolve conflict, and facilitate understanding at all levels.

Work experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering the commercial completion of contracts in a mining and/or construction environment.
  • Experience managing sub-contractors on a project.
  • Experience with debtors' management (advantageous).
  • Understanding of accounting principles.
