Job description

Our client, a leading mining company, is looking to hire a Cost Controller GRV to join their team based in Rosebank, Johannesburg on a 42 month contract.

Reporting into the Project Procurement Manager, you will control costs in the goods received voucher (GRV) process by ensuring alignment of purchase orders, received goods, and invoices while providing cost management insights to stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Management Accounting/Finance (NQF 6)
  • B-Financial degree, e.g. B. Com or Degree in Management Accounting (NQF7) - preferred
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, focusing on the GRV process, procurement-related cost control, financial governance and compliance.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who come from the mining, heavy construction or procurement industry
  • Advanced MS Excel Skills, including financial modelling, data reconciliation, and analysis functions.
  • Understanding project management principles and their application in cost control.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial principles, accounting systems (GAAP, IFRS), and governance frameworks such as King III.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, including goods received verification and reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of contract management principles and their financial implications.
  • Familiarity with financial tracking systems, GRV systems, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpreting complex financial information to inform decision-making.
  • Valid driver's license and own vehicle.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in verifying and reconciling goods received vouchers against purchase orders, invoices, and budgets.
  • Proficiency in using financial systems for tracking and reporting GRV-related transactions.
  • Strong skills in budget monitoring, variance analysis, and identifying cost-saving opportunities related to procurement and GRV.
  • Ability to develop and maintain audit-ready financial records for GRV processes.
  • Competence in delivering engaging and clear presentations tailored to diverse audiences, particularly on GRV financial performance.
  • Skill in ensuring adherence to procurement policies and financial governance standards.
  • Proficiency in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements in GRV-related activities.

Main Duties:

  • Performance and Delivery:
    GRV Management and Cost Control
  • Verify the accuracy of goods received vouchers against purchase orders, invoices, and budgets to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between goods received, invoices, and purchase orders, engaging with procurement, finance, and suppliers as required.
  • Monitor GRV processes to maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper cost allocation.
  • Ensure all GRV documentation is correctly filed and tracked for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Develop and maintain systems to track GRV-related costs and provide regular updates to finance and project teams.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
  • Analyse GRV-related costs and their impact on the project budget, identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial reports highlighting GRV-related activities and their financial implications.
  • Conduct financial analyses to assess and improve the efficiency of GRV and procurement processes.
  • Provide detailed variance analyses for GRV-related costs and promptly communicate "over-cost" expenditures to stakeholders.
  • Compliance and Process Improvement:
  • Ensure GRV processes comply with company policies, procurement guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously improve GRV-related financial controls to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing cost control strategies focused on GRV and procurement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Support:
  • Collaborate with procurement, supply chain, and finance teams to manage GRV-related financial risks.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and external auditors to effectively address GRV-related issues.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance on GRV processes to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Support project managers in aligning GRV-related expenditures with project objectives and budgets.
  • Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE):
  • Comply with all safety, health, and environmental practices and requirements.
  • Uphold SHE policies and procedures by:
  • Reporting unsafe practices or risks to the direct supervisor/manager.
  • Promoting and maintaining good housekeeping within the department and on-site to ensure compliance.
  • Actively participate in Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) initiatives, risk assessments, and the closure of identified safety actions.
