Cost Accountant

Reporting: Senior Management Accountant
Location: Maitland
Purpose of the job:
The Cost Accountant will support operations by providing information that will aid decision making and drive profitability, operational efficiency and effective cost control. The Cost Accountant will identify and drive system improvement opportunities and ensure strong controls are in place.

Key Functional Areas:

1. Perform product and customer costings
2. Compile costing information and perform adhoc costings as required
3. Analyse margin and costs and identify where improvements can be made to profitability
4. Calculating production recovery costs and ensuring BOM’s are accurate
5. Coordinate inventory counts and resolve variances
6. Ensure strong inventory controls are in place to safeguard inventory and drive accuracy
7. Complete landed cost calculations for imported raw materials and ensure inventory is valued correctly
8. Review the accuracy of inventory related transactions and assist with queries
9. Review WIP to ensure accuracy, investigate reasons for variances and drive corrective actions
10. Analyse material usage and waste and drive corrective actions
11. Compile and maintain reports to track performance and KPI’s
12. Preparing information and reports for business presentations
13. Assist with compiling annual budgets and rolling forecasts
14. Providing systems support to users and maintaining master data
15. Identify and drive system improvements and assist with special projects
16. Prepare SOP documentation and provide training to staff on systems implemented
17. Assist with Capex calculations and tracking of return on investment

Required Prior Learning/ Experience:

1. Bcom Cost and Management Accounting or Finance related degree (Studying towards CIMA advantageous)
2. At least 1-3 years of experience in a financial or cost accounting role
3. Experience working within a manufacturing environment will be an advantage

Required Knowledge and Skills:

1. Experience working with ERP (Syspro) systems and integrated systems (Barcode scanning) will be an advantage
2. Computer literate: MS Office (Intermediate / Advanced Excel / Pivot Tables, Power BI advantageous)
3. Driver’s License essential
