Job summary

The A&R Group in Potchefstroom is seeking a Cost Accountant to focus on quotes, tender submissions, accurate costing, pricing and margin analysis to support competitive submissions. You will contribute to cost control and financial reporting, monitor project costs, revenue recognition and variances, and produce management reports and cost analyses.

The ideal candidate will have a CIMA qualification with at least three years’ experience in cost accounting, mining or manufacturing exposure, and

• Industry exposure to mining/manufacturing preferred.
• Strong Excel and reporting skills.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant with a strong commercial and costing background to join the A&R Engineering Group of Companies. The role focuses primarily on quotes and tenders, including accurate costing, pricing and margin analysis to support competitive and commercially sound submissions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial systems.

• A recognised professional accounting qualification, preferably CIMA, with a minimum of three years' experience
• Technical and mining industry experience; exposure to manufacturing will be advantageous
• IT-orientated, with automated systems and management reporting experience
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Able to prioritise and plan own workload with a systematic work method and high attention to detail, to meet all reporting deadlines
• Strong analytical skills, including the use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
• Exposure to the full financial function, including processing monthly journals, inter-company document preparation, preparing recons, cost analysis and inventory reporting

Key responsibilities

Quotes, tenders and costing

• Prepare and cost quotes and tender submissions, ensuring accurate and competitive pricing
• Analyse costs, margins and commercial requirements to support profitable business decisions

Cost and financial management

• Monitor project and operational costs, revenue recognition, margins and variances
• Maintain accurate financial information and identify opportunities for cost optimisation

Project and commercial reporting

• Analyse project costs, financing and profitability
• Prepare relevant management reports and ad hoc financial and commercial analysis

Financial controls and risk

• Monitor financial controls, compliance and accounting risks
• Review processes and implement appropriate controls to mitigate identified risks

Process improvement and administration

• Oversee relevant financial and administrative processes
• Improve the efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness of financial and costing processes
