Job description

Cosmetic Packaging Technologist

Overview : Responsible for inputting, coordinating, and managing packaging development from receipt of the brief to launch. Provides technical assistance to Marketing, QA, and customers, ensuring projects are delivered within the agreed timeframe.

Duties :

  1. Sourcing ideas and concepts for new cosmetic packaging developments and presenting them to marketing and sales.
  2. Monitoring trends and meeting with customers to showcase new packaging innovations.
  3. Project planning to ensure compliance with timelines.
  4. Providing the team with feasibility recommendations for project progression.
  5. Obtaining accurate component specifications from suppliers, including material composition and dimensional drawings.
  6. Running trials to check packaging suitability, compatibility, and performance, including material checks, external laboratory evaluations, and dimensional checks.
  7. Assessing current packaging materials for cost and efficiency improvements.
  8. Ensuring all labelling meets regulatory requirements.
  9. Keeping abreast of new regulations related to cosmetics packaging.

Qualifications :

  • Matric with Maths and Chemistry.
  • ND Packaging (minimum requirement) and/or degree with packaging qualification.
  • 5 years’ experience in Cosmetic Packaging Technology (print, plastics, and glass).
  • Established relationships with packaging suppliers.
  • Experience collaborating with graphic designers.
  • Strong packaging problem-solving skills in a factory environment.
  • Ability to liaise with customers and suppliers on packaging challenges and technical requirements.

Remuneration : Negotiable around R50k.
