A leading financial institution is seeking a Financial Analyst to assess credit risks and evaluate financial transactions. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Finance and at least five years of experience in credit analysis. Qualifications

  • Financial tertiary education, minimum Second-Class Upper or equivalent.
  • At least five years of credit analysis experience, preferably in a large financial institution or financial markets consulting/auditing.
  • Experience in financial and business risk assessment or advising.
  • Understanding of Treasury and Financial Markets products (e.g., derivatives).

Responsibilities :

  • The successful candidate will :
  • Assess financial transactions, including products (e.g., derivatives) and structures used.
  • Assess counterparty credit risk, considering the operating environment (country, industry, regulatory, legal risk) and its impact on the risk profile.
  • Spread and model financial statements.
  • Analyze and interpret financial statements.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative assessments to identify and quantify financial and business risks of the counterparty.
  • Assign credit ratings using approved methodologies and models.
  • Prepare credit reports, applications, and financial models for presentation to committees.
  • Present credit applications and reports to credit committees and forums.
  • Monitor financial covenants and risks for credit reporting.
  • Continuously evaluate and monitor counterparties and facilities.
  • Manage the portfolio by making recommendations and contributing to lending policy development.
  • Liaise with various units within the FirstRand Banking Group.
  • Interact with clients.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Financial tertiary education, minimum Second-Class Upper or equivalent.
  • At least five years of credit analysis experience, preferably in a large financial institution or financial markets consulting/auditing.
  • Experience in financial and business risk assessment or advising.
  • Understanding of Treasury and Financial Markets products (e.g., derivatives).

Technical Skills and General Competencies :

  • Knowledge of economics, industry, and Nigerian macroeconomic environment.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory issues, IFRS, Basel II and III.
  • Knowledge of taxation of companies and financial institutions.
  • Understanding of financial instruments and markets.
  • Knowledge of credit ratings, portfolio theory, and credit pricing.

Key Competencies :

  • Deep knowledge of specific operating environments and their impact on risk profiles.
  • Sector and industry-specific knowledge.
  • Assessing transaction-specific risks, including derivatives and product structures.
  • Identify risks related to transactions (credit, legal, tax, exchange control).
  • Introduce risk mitigation measures aligned with the bank's risk philosophy.
  • Understanding of the bank’s credit risk appetite and models.
  • Awareness of global lending market trends for policy input.
