Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Core Network Engineer to join a leading telecom operator in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, to design, implement, maintain and troubleshoot core network systems for reliable voice, data and mobile services. You will work with MSCs, SGWs, PGWs, HLR/HSS and IMS, monitor performance, enforce SLAs, and drive upgrades while coordinating with other teams.

The role demands 5–7 years in core network engineering, expertise in SIP, Diameter, GTP, SS7, IP networking

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5-7 years of experience in core telecommunications network engineering.
• Deep knowledge of 2G/3G/4G/LTE core network architecture and elements.
• Hands-on experience with core network element configuration and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in core network protocols (SIP, Diameter, GTP, SS7).
• Experience with IP networking and related protocols.
• Familiarity with NFV/SDN concepts is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in high-pressure environments.

• Perform root cause analysis for network incidents and implement permanent solutions.
• Configure and maintain core network protocols such as SS7, SIGTRAN, Diameter, and GTP.
• Implement network security measures to protect core network infrastructure.
• Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and technology refreshes.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including design specifications and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of core network with access and transport layers.
• Participate in on-call rotation for network emergencies.
• Stay abreast of emerging core network technologies and industry trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in core telecommunications network engineering.
