Air Products South Africa is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Controls and Instrumentation Technician.

Overview & Key Responsibilities

As a Controls and Instrumentation Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing instrumentation across all Air Products facilities.

1. Instrumentation Maintenance: Troubleshoot, install, and repair all plant instrumentation and controls.
2. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to Health & Safety protocols, including contractor management in line with AP standards.
3. Control System Engineering: Lead control system engineering initiatives.
4. Project Management: Manage plant projects in alignment with AP best practices.
5. Effective Communication: Facilitate clear communication among teams.
6. Operational Support: Assist Operations teams in resolving process operating problems, enhancing efficiency and reliability.
7. Advanced Control Implementation: Implement and maintain advanced control initiatives.
8. Productivity Improvement: Drive productivity improvements through advanced controls and IP 21 changes.

Essential Requirements

1. Education: Minimum of Grade 12 qualification with relevant technical qualification (S4).
2. Trade: Instrumentation Trade Test.
3. Experience: At least 5 years in heavy industry Instrumentation and Control equipment.
4. PLC / DCS Expertise: 5-10 years of experience with PLC / DCS systems.
5. System Knowledge: Experience with ABB XA, Siemens PCS7, or Allen Bradley Systems (SCADA & PLC), including programming and fault-finding.
6. Control System Design: Ability to design, build, install, and implement new control systems.
7. Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Modbus systems, VMware / ESXi, networking, and VLAN systems.
8. Project Management: Proven project management experience.
9. Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with plant operators, process engineers, and management.
10. Software Proficiency: Familiarity with MS Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
11. Standards Knowledge: Basic understanding of NOSA and ISO Standards.
12. Driver's License: Valid driver's license (Code B).
13. Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime as needed.
