Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronics/Computer Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in control systems engineering in automation, preferably power/energy sector.

• Knowledge of IEC safety standards and industrial communications protocols.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to join their expanding operations in Tembisa, Gauteng . This role is critical for ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of our power generation facilities. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of advanced control systems that manage complex energy infrastructure. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of power generation technology, contributing to the stability and sustainability of the energy supply. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial automation, PLC programming, and SCADA systems, coupled with a passion for the energy sector. This is a hands-on role based primarily at our facility in Tembisa, Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust control system architectures for power generation plants.
• Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems.
• Develop and maintain SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for real-time monitoring and control.
• Perform system integration, testing, and commissioning of new control systems and upgrades.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless system operation and performance.
• Develop and implement alarm management strategies and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
• Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams.
• Analyze system performance data to optimize control strategies and identify potential issues.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations related to control systems in power generation.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of control system reliability and efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems engineering, with specific experience in industrial automation within the power generation or energy sector .
• Proficiency in programming various PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric) and HMI/SCADA software.
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
• Experience with system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of complex automation projects.
• Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508/61511) for safety instrumented systems is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control logic diagrams.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work on-site in Tembisa, Gauteng and occasional site visits.
