Contracts / Projects Engineer (High Voltage)

Introduction

Our client is a supplier of electrical equipment, services, and balance of plant to renewable energy projects. They are seeking a Contracts Engineer specializing in high voltage equipment.

Purpose of the Role

To sign and co-sign Purchase Requisitions according to Group and High Voltage Equipment procurement policies. To approve and co-sign tenders after verification as per the Tender Approval policy.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Communicate signed contracts to relevant parties to ensure visibility and understanding for effective implementation.
  2. Manage post-award activities including kick-off meetings, contract submittals, variation orders, claims, and project close-out.
  3. Implement risk management processes, review risk registers, and check risk controls.
  4. Maintain contractual records, including correspondence, costs, purchase orders, acknowledgements, GRNs, and contractual changes.
  5. Liaise with Manufacturing, SHEQ, Field Services, and Engineering to address risks and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  6. Monitor compliance with milestones, deliverables, and invoicing.
  7. Coordinate project close-out procedures, including manuals, warranties, and as-built drawings.
  8. Prepare monthly management reports and conduct financial reviews of contracts.
  9. Apply financial controls to maximize profit while maintaining quality, safety, and planning.
  10. Identify margin improvement and cost optimization opportunities.
  11. Manage cash flow by negotiating payment terms and supporting collection efforts.
  12. Manage corrective actions related to cost controls.
  13. Produce progress reports, updated costs, and forecasts.
  14. Assess and disclose contract risks, opportunities, and mitigation plans during reviews.
  15. Maintain operational relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  16. Prioritize stakeholder requirements and foster open communication.
  17. Manage service level agreements and address client requirements collaboratively.
  18. Ensure compliance with SHEQ systems, legislation, policies, and procedures.
  19. Maintain quality assurance, especially documentation control, and ensure safety, environmental, and quality standards are met.

Minimum Experience & Qualifications

  1. Engineering diploma or degree (3-4 years) or relevant industry qualification.
  2. Registration or eligibility for registration with the South African Council for Construction (SACPMP).
  3. At least 5 years of experience in the Electrical Transmission & Distribution industry.
  4. Minimum 2 years in a Project/Contracts Management role with project delivery experience.
  5. Strong contract management and administration skills.
  6. Technical and commercial proficiency.
  7. Experience in sales and marketing of high voltage products.
  8. Excellent communication skills (written and oral); proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  9. Experience in project finance and financial management.
  10. Knowledge of legal, insurance, and commercial issues related to purchasing and contracts.
  11. Experience with contract conditions such as NEC, JBCC, GCC, and FIDIC.
  12. Strong command of English language skills.
  13. Knowledge of Syspro is advantageous.
