Job description

Our client in the mining industry is seeking a Contracts Manager to oversee all contract management aspects, including development, negotiation, and administration with suppliers, service providers, and contractors. The role involves ensuring contractor compliance with project specifications, timelines, budgets, and safety regulations across various mine sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive contract management experience and a strong understanding of the mining industry's technical and operational aspects.

Key Responsibilities
Contract Management
  1. Develop, negotiate, and finalize contracts with vendors, service providers, and contractors.
  2. Draft, review, and update contracts to ensure they meet all requirements and legal standards.
  3. Ensure contracts comply with company policies, local laws, and industry regulations.
  4. Manage contract disputes and claims, providing solutions and recommendations to mitigate risks.
  5. Track and monitor contract milestones, ensuring all deliverables are met on time and within budget.
Contractor Management
  1. Oversee the performance and management of vendors, contractors and service providers.
  2. Develop and implement contractor management strategies and tracking / auditing measures ensuring the product, service and / or projects are delivered as per contract specification, safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  3. Conduct site visits to monitor contractor progress, quality of work, and adherence to contract specifications.
  4. Manage contractor schedules and resource allocations, ensuring effective coordination between contractors and site personnel.
  5. Address and resolve any performance related concerns with contractors.
  6. Identify potential risks associated with contracts and contractor operations at mine sites and recommend mitigation strategies.
  7. Monitor compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations for both contracts and contractors.
  8. Implement corrective actions when necessary to address non-compliance or performance shortfalls.
Budget & Financial Oversight
  1. Monitor and manage contracts and contractor budgets, ensuring that work is completed within the allocated financial scope.
  2. Evaluate cost estimates, ensuring transparency and cost-effectiveness in all contracted services.
  3. Approve contractor invoices and track payments, ensuring they align with contract terms and work completed.
Reporting & Documentation
  1. Maintain accurate records of contracts, amendments, and related documentation.
  2. Provide regular reports to senior management on the status of contracts, contractors performance, and progress.
  3. Ensure proper documentation of contractor compliance.
  4. Act as a point of contact for all stakeholders, including project managers, contractors, suppliers, and external agencies.
  5. Foster strong relationships with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure smooth collaboration across all project phases.
  6. Collaborate with senior management to identify improvement opportunities in contractor management and project delivery.
Education & Experience :
  1. Bachelors of Business Administration, Bachelor of Law, LLB, BSc Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Professional certifications in contract management (e.g., CIPS, PMP, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
  3. Minimum of 8 years of experience in contract management, with at least 5 years in the mining or construction industry.
  4. Proven experience managing contractors, particularly on large-scale mining operations and projects.
  5. Strong knowledge of contract law, procurement, and regulatory requirements in the mining industry.
  6. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple contracts and contractors simultaneously.
  8. Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in mining operations.
  9. Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with contracts and contractors.
  10. Proficient in contract management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant project management tools.
