The successful candidate should have strong experience in managing mining contracts and operations.
Key requirements and responsibilities would include:
- Managing and overseeing opencast mining contracts and operations.
- Ensuring contractual obligations, production targets and operational requirements are met.
- Managing client and customer relationships and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Dealing professionally and effectively with numerous clients and challenging situations.
- Managing and coordinating operational teams, including supervisors and relevant site personnel.
- Monitoring costs, budgets, productivity and profitability of contracts.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant mining, health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Identifying operational risks and implementing appropriate solutions.
- Preparing and presenting operational and contractual reports to management and clients.
- Negotiating and resolving contractual, operational and client-related issues.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, employees and other stakeholders.
Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills are essential for this position, together with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
Reporting line:
The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager / Exco Member responsible for Operations.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Relevant qualification in Mining Engineering, Mining Management, or a related field.
- Relevant opencast mining experience, preferably within the contract-mining environment. (8-10 years)
- Proven experience as a Contracts Manager or in a senior operational management role.
- Experience in managing multiple mining sites and operational teams.
- Strong experience in managing client relationships, including dealing professionally and effectively with challenging or difficult customers.
- Experience in managing production targets, operational budgets, costs, and contract profitability.
- Sound knowledge of mining legislation, health and safety requirements, and environmental compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
