Experience :
- The successful incumbent must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Contract Manager on infrastructure or road projects valued at least R500 million.
Formal qualifications :
- A bachelor's degree in engineering (civil or structural), construction management, building studies, quantity surveying, or a related field is preferred.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Projects.
- Valid driver's license (Code 08).
- Registration with SACPCMP as PrCM or ECSA as PrEng / PrTechEng.
- Own transport.
Responsibilities :
The contract manager will be responsible for commercial and contractual work.
Contract specific tasks :
- Ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract.
- Conducting risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential contractual risks.
- Negotiating contract terms with subcontractors and suppliers to optimize project outcomes.
- Overseeing all contract administration activities.
Planning :
- Developing and maintaining a Contract Management Plan to guide project execution.
- Managing claims for variations, extensions of time, and additional costs per contractual requirements.
- Developing and presenting project proposals.
- Producing plans, estimating budgets, and setting timescales.
- Managing construction schedules and budgets.
- Handling unexpected costs and planning for unforeseen circumstances.
- Developing work schedule plans.
- Collecting data for forecasting and planning.
Client relations and liaison :
- Discussing, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating business contracts.
- Liaising with project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and subcontractors, to address contractual matters.
- Managing client expectations.
- Agreeing on budgets and timescales with stakeholders.
- Attending site meetings to monitor progress.
- Acting as the main contact for clients, site, and project managers.
- Providing regular updates on contract performance.
- Coordinating with third parties to clarify roles and responsibilities.
- Liaising with technical, financial, legal teams, and client representatives.
- Building and maintaining good relationships with clients and suppliers.
- Documenting activities with external stakeholders.
- Preparing and delivering presentations to clients and suppliers.
Quality and regulation compliance :
- Ensuring projects meet technical standards.
- Maintaining accurate and current project documentation.
- Identifying efficiency and productivity improvements.
- Overseeing invoicing processes.
- Ensuring contract documentation is accurate and updated.
- Monitoring project progress against schedules and budgets.
- Staying informed on South African construction laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Inherent requirements :
- Strong knowledge of South African contract law and construction regulations.
- Proven experience in claims management, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution.
- Experience with legal documentation.
- Proficiency in IT and Mathematics.
- Strong leadership and business management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, technical).

- Knowledge of project management software.
- Understanding of contractual conditions and industry regulations.

- Familiarity with standard contract forms such as FIDIC.
