SUMMARY : POSITION INFO :

Purpose

The Contracts Manager is responsible for the safety and output of the allocated personnel, hire equipment, vehicles, and other resources, and for ensuring the profitable management of contracts.

Key Responsibilities :

Contract Management and Sales

  • This is a ‘hands-on’ position responsible for the safe, effective, and profitable running of jobs.
  • Strive for a target of zero harm every day.
  • Conduct site visits, propose technical solutions, and submit quotations.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and achieve budgeted GP%.
  • Ensure proper handover of each job with the Supervisor / Site Manager.
  • Manage site managers, supervisors, drivers, and site staff daily.
  • Plan and resource jobs with equipment and personnel.
  • Control overtime and manage wage percentages.
  • Establish and maintain excellent customer relationships.
  • Identify new prospects and close deals to grow the business.
  • Visit existing and prospective customers regularly to build relationships, retain business, and win new work.
  • Follow up on quotes and provide feedback to customers.
  • Build and manage prospects and sales pipeline in Syrinx.
  • Articulate our value proposition to customers.
  • Grow the brand.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Commercial

  • Understand and explain our Terms and Conditions of Hire and Sale to customers.
  • Ensure adherence to contract terms and conditions.
  • Meet GP% and Wage% targets on all jobs.
  • Ensure all contract payments are claimed accurately and timely.
  • Manage debtor days in line with budget.
  • Pass on customer damages to the customer.
  • Submit annual price increases and escalation on time.
  • Achieve equipment utilization levels as per targets.
  • Prepare monthly invoicing.
  • Develop understanding of standard contract forms such as NEC and JBCC.
  • Meet revenue and profit targets.

Administration :

  • Handle job costing, timesheets, monthly reports, and stock takes.
  • Manage personal vehicle logbooks and expense claims.
  • Manage delivery and collection notes.
  • Attend site meetings.
  • Perform other general contract administrative duties.

Health / Safety / Environment / Quality :

  • Ensure work is done with approved safety files per client specifications, OHS Act, and regulations.
  • Ensure SAE installations have signed drawings and Certificates of System Design.
  • Ensure TSP installations are safe and compliant with standards.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of Construction Regulations, SANS standards, and the OHS Act.
  • Conduct regular site walk-downs for safety compliance.
  • Promote a safety culture aiming for zero injuries.
  • Report safety deviations and hazards promptly.
  • Report incidents immediately to HSEQ Manager.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ensure risk assessments and toolbox talks are conducted regularly.

Discipline

  • Conduct business ethically and follow instructions.
  • Maintain discipline and promote company policies.
  • Avoid bringing disrepute to the company.
  • Maintain good timekeeping and be medically fit.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Other Duties

  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with stock counts.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Site Manager or Contracts Manager.
  • Previous sales experience required.

Knowledge

  • Detailed SAE product knowledge.
  • Understanding of the sales process and competitor landscape.
  • Contract management and job costing expertise.
  • Familiarity with standard contract forms (JBCC, NEC).
  • Knowledge of Contract Price Adjustment, MEIBC Main Agreement, Construction Regulations, SANS standards, and OHS Act.
  • Understanding of TSP and BMU design fundamentals.
