Overview

The Role:

To analyse, and improve maintain the organizational performance for Workshops and Technical Service systems and processes by implementing and maintaining efficient working protocols such as lean manufacturing, 5S, Kan Ban etc.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize SOPs and technical problem-solving methods to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety, quality, and productivity in workshops and technical services.
  • Plan and lead Kaizen and lean manufacturing events aimed at process improvement.
  • Facilitate events with measurable goals, consistently achieving or exceeding performance targets.
  • Ensure compliance with Sandvik Quality and Service Standards throughout implementation phases.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture across Sandvik’s Southern Africa workshops using Lean and operational excellence tools to optimize repair processes.
  • Lead improvement projects and coach employees on adopting new ways of thinking and working.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and sustainability of process changes.
  • Implement Operational Excellence by conducting root cause analyses and adapting processes, suppliers, or training to address failures.
  • Improve operational efficiency through process enhancements focused on cost, productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Develop and document SOPs for service operations.
  • Stay updated on technologies and standards to maintain international quality benchmarks.
  • Report on lean events, capturing lessons learned and key impacts.
  • Provide regular project updates in bi-weekly feedback sessions.
Your Profile
  • B Degree in Industrial Engineering (NQF Level 7)
  • Advantageous
  • Trade Certificate in Millwright/Fitting/Electrical/Diesel Mechanic
  • Lean or Six Sigma qualification
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in industrial engineering within a Mining or Manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of customer service and mining industry.
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation and/or standards e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, ISO 9001 etc.
  • Technical and failure report writing skills
  • Experience in conducting Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Business writing skills
  • Computer literacy
  • English proficiency
  • Valid driver’s license
