JG Afrika (Pty) Ltd in Cape Town is seeking a qualified Construction Site Surveyor for a major road upgrading project. The role is full-time and site-based for approximately 18 months, with responsibilities across setting out, control, surveys, and as-built data.

You will work with the Resident Engineer, Contractor and Employer's Representative to ensure accurate construction and conformance with design specs, and you will mentor junior staff where required.

Qualifications

• Registration with SAGC as Professional Engineering Surveyor, Engineering Surveyor (Technologist) or Engineering Survey Technician.
• National Diploma/Advanced Diploma/degree in Engineering Surveying, Geomatics, Surveying or related field.
• Valid South African driver’s licence.

Construction Site Surveyor - Cape Town (Ref CT0124)

JG Afrika (Pty) Ltd is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Construction Site Surveyor for a major road upgrading project located within the West Coast District Municipality. The successful candidate will be appointed on a full-time, site-based contract for approximately 18 months and will be responsible for construction monitoring and supervisory surveying services during the construction phase.

The Construction Site Surveyor will be responsible for all surveying activities associated with the construction of the project, including survey control, setting out, verification surveys, quantity calculations, and preparation of as-built information. The incumbent will work closely with the Resident Engineer, Contractor and Employer's Representative to ensure that construction works are accurately set out and constructed in accordance with the approved design and project specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Establish and maintain construction survey control.
Undertake ground line surveys and construction verification surveys.
Interpret and verify contract drawings and on-site designs.
Import, analyse and validate survey and design data using survey software packages.
Set out and verify roadworks, drainage and associated infrastructure.
Verify volumes, layer works, batter slopes and setting-out information.
Develop and maintain Digital Terrain Models (DTMs).
Undertake volumetric calculations and quantity verification surveys.
Stake and verify road reserve fence positions where required.
Prepare verification reports, survey records and as-built information.
Provide on-site training, mentoring and skills transfer where required.
Work closely with the Resident Engineer, Contractor and Employer representatives.

Qualifications:

Registration with the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) as a Professional Engineering Surveyor, Engineering Surveyor (Technologist) or Engineering Survey Technician.
National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering Surveying, Geomatics, Surveying or a related field.
Valid South African driver's licence.

Experience:

Minimum five years' experience in engineering and construction surveying.
Proven experience as a Site Supervisory Surveyor on road construction, road rehabilitation or similar civil engineering infrastructure projects.
Experience with roadworks, earthworks, drainage infrastructure and construction setting-out.
Experience in quantity verification, volumetric calculations and the preparation of as-built information.
Availability to be full-time on site for the duration of the project.

Construction survey control and setting-out.

Digital terrain modelling (DTMs) and volumetric calculations.
Interpretation of engineering drawings and design information.
Competence in GNSS/GPS, total stations, digital levels and survey software packages.

Notes:

The successful candidate must provide and maintain all surveying equipment, software and licences required to undertake the construction surveying services associated with the project.
