Job description

Introduction

Our client is a leading developer of Solar PV and BESS projects in Africa. With over a decade of experience, the company operates across multiple African countries and is renowned for its innovative and sustainable energy solutions.

Now, as part of an exciting expansion, they are seeking a highly skilled (utility-scale) Construction Manager to join their team and oversee the successful delivery of a large-scale solar PV project in Zambia.

As the Construction Manager, you will be at the helm of ensuring the successful delivery of a utility-scale solar PV project. If you are an experienced construction professional with a strong background in utility-scale solar PV, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a transformative energy project.

Please note: This is an on-site position in Zambia, contracted for two years. The contract may be renewed which will be project dependent.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Stakeholder Management: Act as the main point of contact for the EPC, client, and other stakeholders, leading weekly project meetings.
• Project Reporting: Provide internal and external reporting on project progress and coordinate project management meetings with sub-contractors and clients as required.
• Project Programme Management: Manage the project programme throughout all phases of the project.
• Plant Design Review: Assist with the plant design review process, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
• Procurement and Logistics: Oversee the procurement and logistics of plant materials and ensure timely delivery to meet project requirements.
• Construction Oversight: Ensure that plant construction meets design specifications, quality standards, and health & safety regulations. This may involve living on-site or near the construction site for the majority of the construction period.
• Commissioning and Project Closeout: Oversee plant commissioning, punchlist preparation, and completion, ensuring proper project close-out procedures and review of final documentation.
• EPC Payment Management: Manage EPC payment milestones and ensure timely payments to maintain positive cash flow for the project.
• Weekly Progress Updates: Provide weekly project progress updates to the client.
• Internal Process Assistance: Assist with the preparation and review of internal project management processes and policies for the company.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Zambian resident / national

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

•Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction and project management with a strong operational background.
• Extensive experience and a deep technical understanding of utility-scale solar PV systems.

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

Key Knowledge:
• Strong electrical knowledge and the ability to read and understand technical drawings.
• Experience managing design/build contracts from the ground up, resulting in profitable construction projects.
• Strong understanding of financial models and managing budgets and cash flow.
