Construction Manager

Our client, a leading Mechanical Engineering concern in Bellville, Western Cape, is looking to appoint a Construction Manager on an 8-month fixed-term contract at a Refinery in the Cape Town area.

The person will be responsible for all site fabrication and construction on a NEC 3 (or equivalent) piping and mechanical project and/or other contracts awarded, including deployment operations and offshore installations, as per project and client requirements.

Responsibilities

1. Manage fabrication and construction tasks to ensure the successful execution of the site project.
2. Control project schedule and cost through efficient use of all construction resources including manpower, materials, tools, and equipment.
3. Provide input for the development of project schedules in cooperation with the Project Manager, Site Supervisors, and relevant subcontractors.
4. Determine and monitor manpower levels to meet scheduled milestones and ensure conformance with the construction plan.
5. Monitor productivity and costs, implementing actions to maximize labor productivity and cost-effectiveness.
6. Ensure scope changes are documented and compensation events are approved.
7. Implement and maintain site safety, security, quality, and project procedures.
8. Participate actively in developing a safety culture, making safety a natural part of all work performed.
9. Ensure personnel and project compliance with company and client QHSE policies and systems.
10. Analyze, manage, and mitigate project risks.
11. Develop, implement, and manage method statements for various site activities, including fabrication and installation of piping, structural work, and equipment installation.
12. Review rigging plans and studies, demonstrating experience in rigging.
13. Contribute to project planning, monitoring, and reporting.
14. Manage subcontractors to ensure quality, cost, and schedule adherence.
15. Maintain quality standards according to design documents.

Qualifications & Experience

• Red Seal Artisan or Diploma in a mechanical field.
• Registered as a PR, CPM at the SACPCMP.
• Over 5 years of experience in large site piping construction/engineering projects and construction management.
