Condition Monitoring Technician required in Cape Town.
The Condition Monitoring Technician is responsible for routine and non-routine machinery condition monitoring, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and preventive maintenance of plant equipment.
This role requires expertise in vibration analysis, failure investigations, performance testing, and equipment alignment to prevent mechanical fatigue and improve operational efficiency.
The technician will work closely with maintenance teams, supervisors, and plant managers to conduct diagnostics, report on equipment conditions, and recommend corrective actions for sustained plant operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Condition Monitoring & Data Collection:
- Perform routine and non-routine machinery condition monitoring using data collectors and computerized systems.
- Conduct vibration analysis and performance evaluations for compressors, motors, and pumps.
- Develop lubrication, oil analysis, and equipment monitoring schedules for preventive maintenance.
Failure Investigation & Troubleshooting:
- Identify and report equipment showing potential mechanical fatigue, recommending corrective actions.
- Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and assist in troubleshooting activities.
- Work closely with maintenance supervisors and plant managers to improve machinery reliability.
Performance Testing & Reporting:
- Perform monthly vibration and heat trend analysis to assess plant equipment performance.
- Compile and submit condition monitoring reports, including recommendations for preventive/corrective actions.
- Participate in audits and process reviews to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards.
- Report on risks affecting the efficiency and reliability of mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems.
- Conduct anti-corrosion protection assessments where required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 OR Technical Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent tertiary qualification.
- Certification in Vibration Analysis Category II (ISO certified).
- Infra-Red Scanning Level 1 certification.
- Tribology / Oil Analysis Level 1 certification.
- Experience in Lazer Alignment Training.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in plant maintenance and condition monitoring (preferably in the water treatment industry).
- Strong knowledge of condition monitoring practices and experience in compiling monthly trend reports.
- High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Valid Code 08 driver’s license – willingness to travel long distances when required.
- Ability to work after hours and respond to urgent situations.
- Familiarity with VIBEEXPERT11 Vibration Analysis, FLIR E75 Thermal Imaging Camera, and FIXTURE Lazer Alignment tools is an advantage.
