Placements24 is seeking a talented Concept Artist focused on environment design to join its creative team in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). You will generate imaginative concept art that defines game worlds, levels, and architectural elements, collaborating with level designers and art directors to realize immersive virtual spaces.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio in environment design, expert drawing and painting skills in Photoshop, and a solid grasp of composition, lighting, and color

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Concept Artist with a strong portfolio in environment design.
• Excellent drawing, painting, and rendering skills using Photoshop.
• Strong understanding of composition, perspective, lighting, color theory.
• Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration within a studio.
• Familiarity with Blender or Maya for blockouts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed environment concept art for landscapes, architecture, and props.
• Develop mood boards, color palettes, and style guides.
• Collaborate with level designers to translate concepts into playable spaces.
• Iterate on designs based on feedback from the art director.

This role is key to establishing the artistic vision and mood of projects, requiring exceptional drawing skills, a deep understanding of composition, lighting, and perspective, and the ability to collaborate effectively with level designers and art directors to realize immersive virtual spaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed and evocative environment concept art, including landscapes, architecture, and key props.
• Develop mood boards, color palettes, and style guides to establish the visual tone for game environments.
• Collaborate with level designers to translate concepts into practical, playable spaces.
• Iterate on designs based on feedback from the art director and other team members.
• Research historical, cultural, and natural references to inform environment design.
• Present artwork clearly and effectively to the team, explaining design choices and intentions.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Concept Artist, with a strong portfolio showcasing environment design.
• Exceptional drawing, painting, and rendering skills using digital tools such as Photoshop.
