Job description

Our Client supports and promotes research and human capital development through funding, the provision of research facilities, and science outreach platforms and programmes to the broader community in all fields of science and technology, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, and humanities.

They spearhead South Africa's activities in engineering, science, and construction.

The CI Storage and Delivery Lead role involves technical leadership, architecture, and research for the organisation's specialised infrastructure and programmes.

Key responsibilities include developing and managing server and storage hardware, science archives, data transfer systems, tape libraries, and database services.

The lead will oversee the operation and uptime of these systems and collaborate with this niche industry’s international consortia.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the science team to develop, design, and review the organisation's data lifecycle management policy.
  2. Oversee the alignment of the technical storage solution with the data lifecycle management policy and processes.
  3. Drive and be accountable for implementation activities for alignment of data lifecycle management policy and processes.
  4. Lead data storage, archival, and backup processes to ensure continuous availability and preservation of High-Sensitivity Detection System (observation) data.
  5. Collaborate with other operations leads to ensure continuous support and technical response during storage solution operations.
  6. Implement monitoring, early warning, and logging solutions for the storage system.
  7. Manage storage solution change rollouts, ensuring key stakeholders are informed and capable of utilising the updated solutions.
  8. Chart the technical research path regarding high capacity, high availability, and long-term archival solutions.
  9. Support the development and maintenance of system engineering deliverables such as documentation and verification activities.
  10. Support CI Storage administration.
  11. Develop and maintain data delivery policies and processes for the High-Sensitivity Detection System data.
  12. Ensure robust data delivery infrastructure and solutions are in place for the High-Sensitivity Detection System.

Qualification Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or Electrical Engineering.

Experience Requirements: At least 10 years in system design, architecture, and analysis with a strong focus on storage, including large-scale storage implementations (>20 PB), CEPH (advantageous), high-performance computing, and managing diverse storage architectures.

Extensive experience in system engineering-driven environments, innovative solutions development, and managing distributed projects. Proven experience in technical team management and working with senior management.

Knowledge Required: Budgeting, resource management, financial procedures, computing infrastructure, resource organization, complex communication, leadership, and project delivery skills.
