Job summary

Outsized is seeking an experienced Compliance Monitoring Officer for a three-month contract within its Group Compliance function. The role focuses on executing CRMPs and conducting periodic reviews to identify non-compliance and assess regulatory controls.

The ideal candidate will have 4–6 years in compliance, strong knowledge of financial services and insurance regulation, and an ability to produce clear monitoring reports and robust working papers.

Job description

Our client, a leading life insurance organisation, is looking for an experienced Compliance Monitoring Officer to join its Group Compliance function on an initial three-month contract, with strong potential for extension. The consultant will conduct periodic compliance monitoring reviews across the Group, identifying areas of non-compliance and assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of regulatory controls.

The role requires someone who can independently execute Compliance Risk Management Plans (CRMPs), conduct monitoring reviews, maintain robust working papers and produce clear compliance monitoring reports. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years' relevant experience, strong financial services regulatory knowledge and practical exposure to the insurance industry.

Key Activities

• Conduct periodic compliance monitoring reviews across the organisation and relevant Group entities.
• Complete CRMPs and themed monitoring reviews in line with the approved Annual Compliance Plan.
• Facilitate Regulatory Control Workshops with relevant business departments ahead of planned monitoring reviews.
• Review and strengthen the compliance control environment against applicable legislation and regulatory developments.
• Conduct regulatory compliance and legislative monitoring reviews using the organisation's compliance systems.
• Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of existing controls and associated action plans.
• Maintain appropriate working papers in accordance with the Compliance Monitoring Methodology.
• Prepare compliance monitoring reports in line with Group Compliance standards.
• Present monitoring findings to relevant stakeholders and management.
• Record findings and agreed actions and maintain the central findings register.
• Track remediation of compliance findings through to closure.
• Conduct ad hoc compliance monitoring and investigations where required.
• Support regulatory projects and implementation initiatives.
• Build effective working relationships with business divisions, Internal Audit, Compliance and Risk Management functions.

Your Background

• 4-6 years' experience in Compliance Monitoring, Regulatory Compliance, Compliance Assurance or a similar role.
• An LLB, BCom or Internal Audit degree.
• Good working knowledge of financial services legislation.
• Practical knowledge of insurance and related legislation.
• Experience conducting compliance monitoring reviews and assessing regulatory controls.
• Experience compiling professional compliance monitoring reports.
• Understanding of business policies, processes, procedures and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Strong planning, analytical and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to engage effectively with management and other business stakeholders
• Occupational Certificate: Compliance Officer (NQF Level 6).
• Professional compliance designation such as CPrac (SA) or AML CPrac (SA).
• Membership of the Compliance Institute Southern Africa (CISA).
• Working knowledge of FAIS, the Insurance Act, Long-term Insurance Act, Policyholder Protection Rules and AML requirements.
• Knowledge of CISA's Generally Accepted Compliance Practice framework.
• Previous experience within life insurance.
• Experience supporting regulatory projects and broader compliance initiatives.
