Job description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to lead a team of three staff members within the insurance industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, internal policies, and best practices within the short-term or life insurance sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage a team of three compliance staff, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
  2. Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures in alignment with industry regulations.
  3. Monitor, assess, and report on the effectiveness of compliance programs.
  4. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements including FAIS, FICA, and other applicable laws.
  5. Conduct internal audits and compliance reviews to identify areas of risk.
  6. Provide advice and support on compliance-related matters to senior management and business units.
  7. Liaise with external regulators and auditors, preparing reports as required.
  8. Stay current with changes in legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to the insurance industry.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. BCom degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  2. RE 5 (or RE 1) certification is a requirement.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance management within the insurance industry, with a preference for short-term insurance experience.
  4. Previous experience managing a team is preferred.
