Compliance Manager

This role is integral in ensuring that operations align with all relevant regulatory requirements, mitigating risk, and maintaining the highest compliance standards. Your key job responsibilities as the Compliance Manager in Cape Town, South Africa will include:

• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance framework, ensuring adherence to all South African regulatory obligations, including licensing conditions, privacy legislation, anti-bribery policies, and marketing standards.
• Oversee the implementation of compliance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure regulatory alignment.
• Provide regular compliance reports to senior management with insights and recommendations.
• Advise leadership on compliance matters and assist in managing regulatory requirements and customer complaints.
• Implement and oversee AML policies, Risk Management, and Compliance Programs (RMCP).
• Ensure compliance with customer due diligence, suspicious transaction reporting, and record-keeping in line with RMCP guidelines.
• Maintain and update RMCP policies, ensuring Board approval.
• Actively participate in AML / CFT audits and inspections, addressing findings and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure registration with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) and appoint FIC Compliance Officers.
• Manage due diligence processes for customers, vendors, and partners.
• Ensure all due diligence checks align with regulatory and company standards.
• Develop and update policies related to risk assessment and mitigation.
• Lead fraud prevention strategies and implement risk controls across the business.
• Monitor transactions and business activities for financial crime risks.
• Identify, investigate, and report potential fraud or suspicious activities.
• Collaborate with marketing, product, and affiliate teams to ensure compliance with advertising regulations.
• Assist the legal team in maintaining and updating policies and procedures related to advertising compliance.
• Develop and deliver targeted training programs to enhance awareness of compliance risks.
• Ensure employees receive training on AML, CTF, and regulatory compliance obligations.
• Establish robust monitoring systems to assess compliance effectiveness, identifying gaps and implementing remediation plans.
• Stay updated on regulatory developments and communicate changes across the business.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, including the registration of an Information Officer under POPIA and PAIA.
• Submit annual PAIA reports and oversee data protection initiatives.
• Support Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) initiatives.
• Monitor compliance with Employment Equity Amendment Act targets where applicable.

Requirements for this Compliance Manager job in Cape Town, South Africa:

• Bachelor’s degree (BCom Law / LLB with post-graduate qualification in Law advantageous).
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in compliance management within a highly regulated industry, preferably online wagering, gambling, or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of South African regulatory requirements, including AML / CTF, Responsible Gambling, privacy laws, and advertising standards.
• Experience engaging with regulatory bodies and licensing authorities.
• Proven ability to develop and implement compliance frameworks from the ground up.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and embed a culture of compliance improvement.
• Strong understanding of AML, fraud prevention, risk management, and responsible gaming.
• Ability to work independently under pressure while managing multiple projects and priorities.
