Job Description

This role involves managing the Compliance function within the business unit and supporting the Segment Compliance Head and Group Chief Compliance Officer. The focus is on ensuring compliance with the Banks Act Regulations through the implementation of the FirstRand compliance risk framework, aligning with the company's strategic objectives and ensuring delivery of compliance responsibilities.

  • Control expenditure and identify process improvements to reduce costs.
  • Build collaborative relationships across teams to enhance work delivery and innovation.
  • Implement and monitor business processes according to regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor customer feedback to identify root causes and improve processes.
  • Analyze regulations and legislation, using a risk-based approach to identify applicable laws.
  • Develop and implement compliance/legislative universe and risk management plans.
  • Create monitoring plans and reports on compliance activities.
  • Report incidents and escalate compliance risks promptly.
  • Advise management on systems, policies, and controls for compliance.
  • Research legislative developments and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and participate in related projects and training.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are implemented and reviewed regularly.
  • Maintain knowledge of legislative changes and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance systems are effective and respond to audit findings.
  • Develop governance and compliance procedures, identifying risks.
  • Implement and enforce the organization’s compliance program.
  • Stay informed on regulatory obligations, including FAIS Act and other relevant laws.
  • Encourage teamwork and inclusivity.
  • Manage team performance to meet objectives.
  • Participate in personal and team development activities.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in compliance, legal, risk management, or similar.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCEP are preferred.
  • Experience in fintech or financial services industry is highly desirable.
  • 10+ years in a compliance role.
  • Deep understanding of corporate governance, AML, investment, transaction, lending products, and crypto asset regulations.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory bodies and crypto assets.
  • Strong knowledge of legal, AML/CFT, and anti-bribery requirements.
  • Leadership skills to manage diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
