Job description

We're looking for a Communications Mentor who can live and volunteer in South Africa for 12 months. This assignment seeks to review the communication strategy and perform a needs analysis to determine the areas of growth for the communications team.

To be considered for this role, you'll need a relevant qualification in communications, media studies, or journalism, and experience in a communications role. You will work alongside the communications team, focusing on building their strategic communication skills.

About the Partner Organisation

Media Monitoring Africa (MMA), based in Johannesburg, has a vision to create a responsible, quality media that enables an engaged and informed citizenry in Africa and the world.

MMA aims to promote the development of a free, fair, ethical, and critical media culture across the African continent. They have identified the need to strengthen internal communications and build strategic storytelling capacity to enhance their reach and impact.

Their young and dynamic communications team would benefit immensely from mentorship and training, particularly from a volunteer with experience in the media industry.

The Australian Volunteers Program is a government-funded initiative supporting partner organizations across the Pacific, Asia, and Africa to achieve locally led change. We cover flights, insurance, and provide a living and accommodation allowance.

Application Requirements
  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of a Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
  • Additional requirements include attaining a First Aid Certificate.
