Job description

We are looking for an experienced Short Term Insurance: Commercial Underwriter.

Your Formal Education:
  • Matric
  • NQF 5 in Short-Term Insurance
  • Regulatory Exam Level 1
  • A minimum of five years of relevant commercial underwriting experience
  • Commercial Lines Class of Business
  • DOFA confirmation from FSB
  • Cardinal system experience will be an advantage
Responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining commercial underwriting standards and providing quality client service
  • Issuing new policies, renewals, and endorsements on the CIMS3 System
  • Preparing new business quotes
  • Underwriting in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures
  • Supporting the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business
  • Attending to administration and written communication
  • Ensuring documentation is processed accurately and correctly
  • Checking and authorizing documentation prior to dispatch
  • Resolving queries as per company standards
  • Negotiating renewal terms and preparing renewal documentation
  • Ensuring renewal reviews are completed timely
  • Calculating retentions
  • Requesting, monitoring, and fulfilling survey requirements
  • Correcting unprofitable policies
  • Ensuring policies are not overexposed
  • Checking policies before sending to clients
  • Handling telephone inquiries from clients regarding queries or amendments
  • Saving all work electronically
Service delivery for customer satisfaction:
  • Maintaining service quality within operational processes
  • Resolving escalated customer queries and complaints
  • Providing feedback on resolved matters
  • Developing work routines aligned with operational plans
  • Sharing knowledge and participating in creating new standards and procedures
  • Aligning behavior with organizational culture and values
  • Sharing product, process, and system knowledge with colleagues
  • Collaborating with the Underwriting team to ensure service levels
Continuous improvement:
  • Ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures
