Job summary

ACG Growth Partners™ is recruiting a Junior Commercial Underwriter for an established short-term insurance brokerage in Benoni, Gauteng. This on-site, full-time role reports to a portfolio manager and offers exposure to a broad commercial book, including mid-sized clients and larger corporates.

Key duties include assessing new commercial insurance business, analysing risk information, preparing quotations and negotiating terms with insurers and clients.

Qualifications

Commercial Underwriter

ACG Growth Partners™ is recruiting a Commercial Underwriter on behalf of an established short-term insurance brokerage in Benoni.

Location: Benoni, Johannesburg, Gauteng. Employment type: Full-Time. Position level: Junior. Work model: On-site. Remuneration: R23,000 per month, plus 13th cheque.

The brokerage has built a strong reputation for reliability and expertise, and most of its clients arrive by word‑of‑mouth referral. It places a wide range of short‑term cover, from personal contents insurance through to large corporations, factories and workshops, along with specialised products such as trade credit, malpractice, and kidnap and ransom. Its focus is on tailoring policies to each client’s needs and budget, and on helping clients through complex insurance decisions.

The Commercial Underwriter works alongside a portfolio manager. Together they assess and evaluate new commercial insurance business, renew and endorse policies, follow up on unpaid premiums and recommend cover adjustments to clients. This is a full‑time, on‑site position.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12).
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk, interpret financial data and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• The ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
• Computer proficiency, including common office software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Short‑term insurance industry experience. This is ideal but not essential.

Personal attributes: Eagerness and humility to learn count for more here than prior experience. The brokerage wants someone who takes pride in the quality of their work and goes the extra distance for clients.
