Enhanced Responsibilities

  1. Retail Sales & Category Leadership
  • Sales-Out Analysis: Track retail POS data to identify opportunities, gaps, and promo ROI.
  • Sales-In Analysis: Analyse sales-in data across all territories and retailers/partners.
  • Cluster Optimisation: Segment stores by performance assortment and shopper demographics.
  • Spearhead category management initiatives by leveraging advanced analytics to identify growth drivers, segment performance, and competitive positioning.
  • Translate complex consumer data into actionable category stories that influence retailer strategies and shelf positioning.

2. Leadership & Principal Reporting

  • Monthly Performance Dashboards: Deliver automated Power BI/Tableau reports.
  • Quarterly Performance Reports: Synthesize insights for brand principals into actionable recommendations.
  • Rapid A/B Testing: Pilot data collection methods to adapt to SA’s diverse retail landscape.
  • Tool Integration: Streamline data flows between ERP systems (e.g., SAP), retailer portals, and analytics platforms.

3. Category & Shopper Analytics

  • Promotion Impact: Measure uplift from in-store activity.
  • Basket Analysis: Uncover cross/complementary opportunities.
  • Promo & Price Elasticity Modelling.
  • Tracking shopper behaviour trends.

4. Supply Chain Analysis

  • Inventory Health: Monitor stock ratios (e.g., days of cover) and flag over/understock risks using ABC analysis.
  • Analyse supply chain performance metrics (including warehousing) to identify bottlenecks and optimise product flow from manufacturer to shelf.
  • Demand Support: Build predictive models for new product launches using historical data and market trends.
  • Develop data-driven allocation models that balance stock positions across retail partners based on real-time sales velocity.
  • Collaborate with logistics partners to establish performance benchmarks and continuous improvement protocols.

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Non-negotiable:3+ years in CPG/retail analytics, with proven success in SA’s formal trade ecosystems. Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Retail Management, or a related field is required; advanced certifications or diplomas in Category Management, Shopper Insights, or Logistics are advantageous.
  • Tools: Advanced Excel (Power Query), SQL, Power BI/Tableau. Python/R for predictive modelling is a bonus.
  • Data Sources: Experience with NielsenIQ, GfK, or retailer-specific portals (e.g., Shoprite Supplier Hub).
  • Understanding of modern data architecture and the ability to collaborate with IT on data integration challenges
