A leading renewable energy firm in Cape Town seeks a Commercial Engineering Manager to spearhead the technical design and implementation of large-scale renewable energy solutions. The ideal candidate will manage projects, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and lead high-performing teams in delivering state-of-the-art systems. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the solar PV sector and relevant qualifications are essential for this role.
COMMERCIAL ENGINEERING MANAGER
As our Commercial Engineering Manager, you will spearhead the technical design, feasibility, and implementation of large-scale renewable energy solutions. Your role is critical in ensuring that every project is technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with regulatory and client expectations.
You will serve as the key link between engineering, sales, project execution, and executive leadership—balancing technical precision with strategic business outcomes. Your leadership will enable Stage Zero to scale effectively, deliver cutting-edge energy systems, and maintain its position as an industry leader.
POSITION LOCATION:
·Cape Town – on site
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
·BEng/BSc/BTech in Electrical Engineering (essential)
·ECSA registration (required)
·SAIEE membership and PV Green Card (advantageous)
·7+ years in a senior technical/engineering role in the commercial solar PV or utility energy sector
·Proven experience in team and project management
·Strong understanding of local and international grid codes, system design software (Helioscope, AutoCAD) and feasibility modelling tools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Lead & Develop High-Performing Teams: Build a culture of technical excellence and accountability; oversee resourcing, performance, and professional growth.
·Project Design & Oversight: Validate and sign off all commercial PV/storage system designs, ensuring technical soundness, cost-efficiency, and compliance.
·Technical Feasibility & Innovation: Oversee feasibility studies and energy modelling, and implement value engineering principles to enhance ROI.
·Client-Focused Solutions: Support sales teams with compelling proposals and present technical concepts directly to clients and stakeholders.
·Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet SANS, NRS, IEC, and municipal/Eskom requirements. Manage grid applications and integrate future-ready solutions.
·Strategic Reporting: Provide executive-level reports on project milestones, innovation initiatives, and technical contributions to company performance.
