At DHL Supply Chain South Africa, we're looking for a Controller: Commercial Transport.

Job Purpose

Effective financial management of all accounts, including monthly, quarterly, and annual budgeting. Direct and control the division's overall financial plans and policies, internal controls, accounting practices, and relationships. Accountable for functions such as forecast/budgeting, management accounting, and cost accounting. Develops and coordinates necessary accounting and statistical data and procedures for the maintenance and preparation of financial/commercial reports. Appraises operating results against benchmarks and strategic plans, and coordinates appropriate action plans. Develops and supports financial staff within the DC.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work with the Business Unit Financial Director to develop and control strategic planning and reporting.
  2. Maintain and enhance decision-making through high-quality financial information and strong internal controls.
  3. Prepare PRB documentation and manage contract acquisitions, capex, and other commercial opportunities.
  4. Support the Senior Controller in annual budget and quarterly forecast processes.
  5. Review and challenge local financial performance, ensuring adherence to budgets and forecasts.
  6. Ensure effective relationships with the central finance team and Shared Services.
  7. Manage operational financial processes, including cost control and revenue management.
  8. Manage financial personnel development within the DC structures.
  9. Provide financial advice to senior management on risk, contracts, and business opportunities.
  10. Ensure compliance with statutory accounting rules.
  11. Monitor and analyze contract and site performance against budgets.
  12. Prepare LE and costings for submissions; handle client queries regarding charges.
  13. Contribute to PRB papers and review investment tools.
  14. Support financial aspects of new business RFPs and oversee related projects.
  15. Quantify and communicate operational impacts of financial decisions.
  16. Manage people and develop financial talent.
  17. Ensure accuracy and integrity of BU GL and reconciliation processes.
  18. Supervise cost control and transaction processing, including Oracle processes.
  19. Implement performance analysis and reporting processes.
  20. Ensure compliance with deadlines and requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Matric – Essential.
  • University degree or equivalent professional qualification; recognized financial qualifications (e.g., CA).
  • Continuous professional development.
  • Experience in supply chain and senior finance roles (minimum 5 years).
  • Relationship management, negotiation, project management, and team development skills.
  • Knowledge of contract logistics market trends, P&L management, and strategic tools.
