TITLE: Commercial Attorney with Risk and Compliance experience

LEVEL:Associate Manager / Manager

JOB TYPE:Full Time (Hybrid) -This role does not offer remote work.

About the Role:

We are seeking aCommercial Attorney with proven experience in Risk and Complianceto actively contribute to opportunity development, revenue growth, and service delivery improvement.

The role includes managing project and client teams to achieve both team and individual targets, while fostering a professional work environment and a culture of excellence. You will own the dedicated client account management strategy and ensure the development of a diverse set of skills for both personal growth and team progression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • High quality service delivery and continuous service delivery improvement
  • Establish knowledge portfolios and build sector specific expertise
  • Encourage and implement global knowledge sharing and cross utilisation
  • Team guidance, capacity analysis and day to day assistance
  • Client reporting and continuous dialogue
  • Weekly maintenance of playbooks

Required Qualifications:

  • Admitted attorney with a legal degree
  • CAMS or CFE certification will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience in a commercial /corporate environment with proven experience in Risk and Compliance.
  • Ability to lead Customer Identification Program (CIP) for clients across geographies and product types for regulatory compliance.
  • Draft and remediate firmwide compliance policies on the back of statutory and regulatory updates and assist in preparing reports for clients as part of regulatory operations support.
  • Proven track record in negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts
  • Based in Cape Town or willing to relocate within one month
  • A mature, team-oriented professional with strong interpersonal skills

Key Activities:

  • Build knowledge of commercial aspects and industries
  • Provide commercial support
  • Guide the team, assisting with overflow and capacity management
  • Continuously introduce clients to new opportunities
  • Ensure the head is included in developments and opportunities related to managed accounts
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date weekly snapshots to:
  • a) control costs
  • b) increase revenue
  • Ensure swift turnaround times on chargeable and non-chargeable matters
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate global clients
  • Provide regular reporting to clients on utilisation and progress

Training:

  • Promote cross-utilisation of team members to:
  • a) increase utilisation
  • b) facilitate knowledge sharing
  • Develop and enforce QA processes, ensuring compliance
  • Expand commercial knowledge and develop specialist expertise in jurisdiction, industry, and technology
  • Continuously update playbooks, processes, and knowledge resources

  • Flexible approach to working hours and delivery methodologies
  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to oversee, manage, lead, and inspire Associates
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task
