COLLEGE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMICS - ALEXANDRA CAMPUS

St David’s is a Marist, Catholic, Independent School established in 1941 for boys of all faiths from Grade 00 to Grade 12. We offer weekly boarding in the College.

Operating on a main campus in Sandton (Grade 00 to 12), and a satellite campus in Alexandra (Grade 8 to 10), St David’s has at its core a strong Marist value base focused on “Humility, Simplicity and Modesty” as espoused by our founder St Marcellin Champagnat in 1816. These values guide St David’s as we strive to achieve excellence in our core areas of Academics, Culturals, Leadership, Service and Sport.

To cater for the ongoing growth of the Alexandra Campus, St David’s Marist Inanda seeks to appoint a dynamic, experienced educational leader in the following position:

COLLEGE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMICS – ALEXANDRA CAMPUS

The ideal candidate will:

  • have a SACE registration and appropriate teaching qualifications.
  • have a proven track record in management, organisation, and administration in successful schools and have a solid academic teaching profile.
  • be an exceptional classroom practitioner who leads and monitors teaching and learning by example and provides support and training where necessary.
  • have a deep understanding of curriculum design, review, and innovation across grade levels or academic departments.
  • be skilled in analysing academic data to drive performance, assessment, and improvement strategies.
  • have an understanding and appreciation of the nuances of boys’ education.
  • have a clear understanding of the professional flexibility required in senior leadership, with tact and sensitivity in the face of challenge and good humour.
  • be able to work with the College senior leadership team to provide strategic leadership to shape, deliver, and promote a strong academic environment and school culture consistent with the school’s ethos and expectations.
  • be able to monitor and ensure the effectiveness and integrity of all school policies and procedures.
  • be open to new ideas, innovate, manage, and see through change.
  • have outstanding personal qualities and interpersonal skills, be a good manager of people and resources who can listen, show diplomacy and understanding, and take a firm line when required.
  • establish, develop, and evaluate strategic academic goals, standards, and plans that reflect a whole-school ethos and partnership with students, staff, and parents.
  • understand the embodiment and promotion of the values and characteristics of being an educator at St David’s and in Marist schooling; inspire and motivate students, teachers, and other school employees to deliver the vision, ethos, and culture.
  • promote high standards in all aspects of school life, including student academic progress while nurturing confident, independent, caring, resolute and inspiring young boys.
  • have the ability to anticipate trends in education and lead innovation to ensure long-term academic excellence.
  • be a strategic thinker with the ability to promote and lead change where necessary, the ability to spot problems, and the vision to suggest and implement solutions.
  • comply with the professional duties of the St David’s staff code of conduct and engage positively in the school appraisal process and performance management arrangements.
  • lead and co-ordinate with key leaders across the College to create synergy in academics across the two campuses.
  • display an understanding of the Catholic and Marist values of the school.
