Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Collections Attorney to join our legal team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ post-admission experience in debt collection and credit recovery, with proven expertise in managing collections processes, teams, and call centre operations. This role requires a strong grasp of litigation procedures, negotiation strategies, and client relationship management, as well as the ability to lead and motivate staff to meet recovery targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the end-to-end collections process, including pre-legal, legal, and post-judgment recovery.
  • Supervise and provide legal guidance to collections and call centre teams.
  • Draft, review, and manage legal documentation related to debt collection matters.
  • Liaise with clients to develop customised debt recovery strategies.
  • Represent clients in court and other dispute resolution forums as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the National Credit Act, Debt Collectors Act, and other applicable regulations.
  • Monitor performance metrics and implement measures to improve recovery rates.
  • Train, mentor, and support team members to maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and service providers.

Minimum Requirements

  • LLB Degree and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-admission experience in collections and credit recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing collections teams and/or call centre environments.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and collections processes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant collections software.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
