Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RF) (Pty) Ltd in Somerset West Cape Town

The Process Engineer will be responsible for driving operational efficiency and productivity across the organization by identifying and implementing process improvements. Their efforts are aimed at reducing costs, enhancing product quality, and improving customer satisfaction through continuous improvement of processes.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  1. Support production facilities from a process engineering perspective.
  2. Perform data analysis, root cause analysis, and identify and implement process improvements to support issue resolution and optimize production processes to eliminate losses, improve quality, capacity, throughput, and conversion cost.
  3. Conduct process capability studies to establish optimal product rationalization on production lines and provide input to the production planning team.
  4. Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing in collaboration with Process Development Engineers and conducting research; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and material; consulting equipment vendors and soliciting observations from operators.
  5. Be the process custodian, evaluate new innovations as they are deployed.
  6. Initiate, plan, and execute OPEX and CAPEX Projects.
  7. Evaluate the impact of projects on current processes, and develop and implement appropriate changes relating to operating, safety, and quality.
  8. Map current operational processes and propose the best layout possible.
  9. Execute value stream mapping to identify value-creating and non-value-creating activities in area of responsibility.
  10. Support plant with process-related management of change (Modification).
  11. Take lead for the implementation of Overall Equipment Efficiency in area of responsibility.
  12. Assist with plant technical documentation i.e., PMI, FOI and related documents as required.
  13. Assist and/or update, create, verify and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM's).
  14. Assist and/or update, create, verify and maintain process routings (Bill of Process, BoP) of products.
  15. Facilitate HAZOP studies and process risk assessments.
  16. Identify the failure modes and effects of the process.
  17. First line support for operations/production.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE:
  1. BSc or BEng in Chemical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of 3 years within the engineering field with a proven record of process design experience.
  3. Working knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous: Process Mapping, Value stream mapping, Total Productivity Maintenance, Statistical Process control, Equipment Reliability, Overall Equipment Efficiency, Process Design and equipment selection, Process and continuous improvements engineering, Lean manufacturing, Knowledge of SHE/OHS/Quality Systems/Explosives Act and relevant legislation (advantageous), Knowledge of HAZOP study, Risk Assessment Training would be advantageous, Knowledge of process safety.
