Job summary

Vulcan Recruit is assisting a Strand/Helderberg-based precision engineering company in Western Cape to recruit a hands-on CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator – Milling. The role covers programming, setting and running 3-axis milling machines, reading engineering drawings and preparing tooling and fixtures to exact specifications.

The successful candidate will work independently in a small team, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and contribute to high-quality, tolerance-critical components

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in CNC milling.
• Strong CNC programming, setting and operating experience.
• Experience with 3-axis CNC milling.
• Ability to program and set machines independently.
• Fanuc control experience preferred.
• Mastercam experience preferred.
• Strong ability to read engineering drawings.
• Good knowledge of tooling, offsets, feeds and speeds.
• Experience working to close tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Program, set and operate CNC milling machines independently.
• Set up and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines.
• Read and accurately interpret engineering and technical drawings.
• Prepare tooling, fixtures, workholding and machine setups.
• Determine and adjust appropriate feeds and speeds.
• Set and manage tool and work offsets.
• Manufacture precision components according to specifications.
• Perform first-off checks and make programming or setup adjustments where required.
• Use precision measuring equipment to verify finished components.
• Work consistently within specified tolerances.
• Identify and troubleshoot machining, tooling and setup problems.
• Maintain quality throughout the machining process.
• Ensure machines and working areas are kept clean and maintained.

About the Opportunity

Our client, a small and established precision engineering company based in the Strand / Helderberg area, is looking for an experienced CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator – Milling to join their team.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is confident working independently and can take a component from an engineering drawing through programming, machine setup and final machining.

The successful candidate should take pride in producing accurate, high-quality components and be comfortable working within a smaller engineering environment where teamwork, reliability and quality workmanship are important.

Minimum Requirements

• Proven hands-on experience in CNC milling.
• Strong CNC programming, setting and operating experience.
• Experience with 3-axis CNC milling.
• Ability to program and set machines independently.
• Fanuc control experience preferred.
• Mastercam experience preferred.
• Strong ability to read engineering drawings.
• Good knowledge of tooling, offsets, feeds and speeds.
• Experience working to close tolerances.

Confident using precision measuring equipment, including:

• Verniers
• Micrometers
• Bore gauges
• Dial indicators
• Other relevant measuring instruments

Previous experience within a precision engineering or machining environment is strongly preferred.
