Job summary

CVQuest seeks an experienced CNC Programmer and Setter to join its production team in Germiston. The role involves programming, setting up, and operating CNC machining centers and turning machines to produce components accurately and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years' experience, strong knowledge of Fanuc controls, and a solid grasp of G-code/M-code with GD&T. Shift work may be required, and attention to detail is essential.

Qualifications

• Trade-tested CNC Machinist/Setter or equivalent qualification (N4 or relevant apprenticeship).
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience programming and setting CNC machining centers and turning machines.
• Experience in CNC controls (Fanuc).
• Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
• Precision measuring equipment skills (micrometers, verniers, gauges; CMM exposure advantageous).
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work shifts if required.

Responsibilities

• Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs for machining centers (mills) and turning (lathe) operations
• Set up machines, including tool selection, offsets, and workholding, for new and repeat jobs
• Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications to determine machining sequences
• Perform first-off inspections and adjust programs/offsets to maintain tolerances
• Monitor production runs, troubleshoot faults, and minimize downtime
• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for different materials
• Conduct routine maintenance and basic fault-finding on CNC equipment
• Maintain accurate job cards, quality records, and tool life documentation
• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards on the shop floor
• Liaise with quality control and production planning to meet delivery deadlines
