Reporting to the Cluster Director of Engineering, this position will be responsible for Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Protea Hotel Fire & Ice!
Johannesburg Melrose Arch
Manages all engineering / maintenance operations, including maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security, and asset protection.
Accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining regulatory requirements.
- Assisting in leading the emergency response team for all facility issues.
- Managing engineering operations and budgets, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Managing energy consumption and recommending conservation methods.
- Developing specifications for service contracts and overseeing their execution.
- Distributing work orders for preventive maintenance and repairs, monitoring completion quality and timeliness.
- Overseeing maintenance of grounds, guestrooms, public spaces, restaurants, and recreational facilities.
- Creating long-term plans for preventive maintenance and asset protection.
- Planning and supervising renovation or new construction projects, including contractor bids and project timelines.
- Building positive relationships with external stakeholders such as city departments and vendors.
- Conducting regular inspections to ensure property standards and guest satisfaction.
- Ensuring licenses and certifications are current and property life safety systems are maintained.
- Leading guest service excellence and continuously improving guest satisfaction scores.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; 5 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or related fields.
- Technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing preferred.
- Two-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major preferred.
- Management experience leading a team for at least 2 years.
