Job summary

Stellenbosch University in Stellenbosch, South Africa, invites applications for a Clinical Nurse Practitioner (Post Level 9) to provide comprehensive health care to staff and students, on both the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses. The role includes emergency care, immunisations, dispensing medicines, and operational management within Campus Health Services.

You will collaborate in a multi-professional team and contribute to health policy development.

Qualifications

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Clinical Nurse Practitioner.
• Postgraduate qualification in Primary Health Care (PHC).
• At least seven to ten years' experience as a Professional Registered Nurse.
• Certificate in the dispensing of medicine.
• A valid South African driver's licence.
• Appropriate experience in the use of information technology.
• Demonstrable planning and organisational skills.
• Problem-solving skills on a clinical and team functioning level.
• Excellent communication skills on a clinical and team functioning level.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-professional team environment.
• The ability to work under pressurised circumstances with good time management.
• Person-centred and values-driven care.
• Multilingualism (or knowledge of at least two of South Africa's official languages).

Responsibilities

• Providing comprehensive health care (preventative and curative) to staff and students on the campuses of Stellenbosch University, as part of a multi-professional team.
• Providing emergency care to patients (e.g. performing ECG's, nebulisations, including off site assessments, etc.).
• Providing nursing support services at sport and other events on SU campuses (which includes availability after-hours and on public holidays on rotation according to a roster basis).
• Dispensing medications (as defined by your scope of practice) and administering immunisations to patients.
• Operational management and administrative responsibilities, as determined by the multi-professional team within Campus Health as a unit.
• Participating in appropriate institutional activities which impact on service delivery (e.g. institutional presentations, seminars, workshops, etc.).
• Developing innovative and occupational-specific processes and programmes to continuously improve service delivery at CHS.
• Supporting and participating in clinical governance and quality assurance activities as part of MDT.

The core mandate of Campus Health Services is to provide an array of professional services and support to the Stellenbosch University (SU) community of 5000 staff and 35 000 students at its two largest campuses (Tygerberg and Stellenbosch Main Campus).

Specialised occupational health service delivery, including individualised case support - preventing work-attributable ill-health, surveillance, health risk assessments, ill-health, disability and incapacity management, Full-cycle radiation safety management services: legal compliance, documentation, training, and consultation, Sports and exercise medicine consultancy services: screening to injury rehabilitation, residence and institutional rugby, Free primary health care by clinical nurse practitioners, A Fee-for-Service doctor consultation service, Accredited travel clinic, Technical expertise on disease surveillance, outbreak response, and health-related advice, Institutional health policy and protocol development and revision, Institutional health and well-being strategic development, Leadership development in health and well-being with students and staff stakeholders.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent training in emergency care.
• Postgraduate qualification in emergency medicine.
• Postgraduate qualification in psychiatry.
• Experience in the delivery of primary nursing care to a tertiary student population.
• Training and experience in sexual health programmes.
• Knowledge and experience in financial management processes.
• Formal training in HIV/ AIDS programmes.
• Training in the performance of spirometry, ECG, breast examinations and cervical smears.
• Any other appropriate postgraduate training.
