Job summary

A healthcare services provider in Stellenbosch is looking for a Clinical Coding Specialist to ensure high-quality and timely clinical coding. This remote permanent position requires experience in clinical coding and familiarity with coding standards such as ICD-10 and CCSA. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To ensure high-quality and timely clinical coding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Conduct procedural coding that adheres to coding rules, conventions, standards, and guidelines.
  • Conduct diagnostic coding that adheres to coding rules, conventions, standards, and guidelines.
  • Participate in quality enhancement and efficiency initiatives to improve coding quality and departmental output.
  • Liaise with Coding Centre Leadership on the quality of clinical information received.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • Clinical Coding Qualification
  • Anatomy and Physiology training
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Clinical coding experience
  • Experience in private healthcare patient administration
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Clinical Coding and Coding Policies
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CSSA, and SADA rules and guidelines, and ability to apply them
  • Understanding of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathophysiology within a clinical environment
  • Application of SA ICD-10 Morbidity Coding Standards, WHO coding rules, PHISC ICD-10, CCSA Coding Standards, and Mediclinic Coding Standards
  • Familiarity with relevant coding systems (e.g., ICD-10 books, CCSA coding books, Encoder, MIT, Patient Administrative system)
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, PAS)
  • Communication and teamwork skills
  • Professional conduct understanding
