The school has an active Psychology discipline with a strong research profile and a large number of postgraduate students, with a vibrant postgraduate research programme.

The incumbent will be expected to contribute to teaching and research within the discipline of psychology. S/he will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development and supervise postgraduate students. For the position of Associate Professor, in addition to the ability to teach in generic modules in psychology, it is recommended that the incumbent should be able to teach in one or more of the following areas: Psychopathology, neuropsychology, psychotherapy and/or psychological assessment.

The incumbent will report to the Head of Discipline: Psychology.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate Professor:
  • A PhD degree in the relevant discipline.
  • A professional Masters degree in Clinical Psychology.
  • At least 6 years of working and relevant experience in either teaching, research, or industry.
  • Evidence of current and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level.
  • Evidence of sustained and successful attraction of external research grants.
  • A sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level, appropriate for the level.
  • Evidence of national and international recognition in a research area within the discipline.
  • Evidence of strong and sustained academic leadership within the Department / School/ College/ University, which includes mentorship and coaching.
  • Evidence of registration with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist with at least three years’ experience post-registration.

Appointment to this post will be on the January 2018 Conditions of Service. The total remuneration package offered includes benefits.
